New cars are expensive, especially if you're looking for a three-row SUV. Even some of the cheapest examples on the market can easily eclipse the $50,000 when fully loaded, perhaps even getting up to $60,000 for some models. Take the 2025 Honda Pilot, for instance, which starts at $40,200.
Admittedly, that's a good price for a large SUV and the going rate for the segment as a whole. However, that price point could be out of reach for most buyers, making it tough for those starting a family to find the right vehicle for their needs. Fortunately, the used market has plenty of options that have already taken a large depreciation hit, making them attainable for most families.
That means instead of buying a new Honda Pilot, finding an older one could be the answer. A good model year to start with is 2019, since it's five years old and has likely depreciated a good amount. But since Hondas are known for holding their value, how much is a 2019 Pilot worth in today's market?
In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from Honda, and other authoritative sources, including Kelley Blue Book, RepairPal, J.D. Power, and FuelEconomy.gov.

A 2019 Honda Pilot Could Save You Nearly $20,000 Compared To A New Model
By going with a used Honda Pilot, shoppers can save quite a bit of money compared to a new one. As stated, a 2025 Pilot starts at $40,000, but the average price for a 2019 model is $22,135 to $25,904 depending on the trim level, according to Kelley Blue Book. A nationwide search on CarGurus for 2019 Pilots confirms that price range. However, it's worth noting that some of the lower-priced examples have nearly 100,000 miles on the odometer. Regardless, this depreciation means buyers can save nearly $20,000 by going with a used Pilot.
Honda Pilot Depreciation
Depreciation is a used-car buyer's best friend, and that rings true even for Hondas. As the miles rack up on the odometer, the car's value lessens over time, but some less than others. In the case of the Honda Pilot, CarEdge reports that it holds its value quite well.
For example, if you were to purchase a new Honda Pilot and drive it for five years, with an average of 12,000 miles per year, it would depreciate by 37 percent. For reference, a new Chevrolet Traverse, a Honda Pilot rival, will depreciate by 42 percent after five years if it's driven an average of 12,000 miles per year.
Here are the Honda Pilot's depreciation values from 5 years old to 10 years old:
- 5-years-old: $18,833
- 6-years-old: $19,116
- 7-years-old: $24,458
- 8-years-old: $25,076
- 9-years-old: $28,421
- 10-years-old: $30,023
Honda Pilot Ownership Costs
When factoring in maintenance, depreciation, insurance, and fuel costs, it can cost around $43,175 for the first five years of ownership. That's a little over $3,000 less than the five-year cost of ownership for a Chevrolet Traverse and a little over $3,000 compared to a Toyota Highlander.

That said, the cost to own a Honda Pilot is about average for the segment, but repairing it isn't too expensive. RepairPal reports that it can cost an average of $542 every year to keep a Pilot maintained. That's lower than average, and the site also rated it 3.5 out of 5 stars for reliability.
However, the Pilot is not without its faults. The three more common issues include:
- Warped front rotors
- Stabilizer link noises
- Overheated wire harness may cause low beams to fail
