All:This is special to me; Please welcome Shirley: We recently announced that Shirley Xu has advanced from a staff attorney to second-year associate attorney at LPHS, becoming the only entry-level attorney hired by the firm in the past decade. Shirley brings a dynamic blend of U.S. and international legal expertise, making her a valuable asset to the team. and she has become quite the antitrust specialist. She holds dual legal qualifications, with a Bachelor of Law from Wuhan University and a J.D. from Emory University School of Law. Shirley’s legal journey began after passing China’s bar exam, which has an overall pass rate of just 10-20%. She then gained experience in transactional field at King & Wood Mallesons, one of Asia’s leading international firms, where she worked on major M&A and IPO deals for State-owned enterprises and top investment banks. While at Emory, Shirley distinguished herself by competing in the prestigious International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition, securing a top-three finish in the international round representing the U.S. She also dedicated nine months to serving low-income communities at the DeKalb County Public Defender’s Office.Shirley is multilingual, native in Mandarin and Hokkien (Taiwanese), with conversational proficiency in Cantonese. This linguistic diversity positions her uniquely to serve the growing Mandarin-speaking client base in the U.S., enabling her to offer seamless legal services to clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. All please welcome Erin who joined us this week: Erin Elms-Nemec joined Lynn Pinker Hurst Schwegmann after clerking for United States Magistrate Judge Rebecca Rutherford, from 2022–2023, and United States District Judge Sam A. Lindsay, from 2023–2024. Erin was born in the Philadelphia area but moved nearly every two years thereafter—including attending middle school in Queretaro, Mexico and graduating high school in Pattaya, Thailand—for her father’s job. Despite what many people assume, though, her father does not work for the CIA or military (he is an engineer at Kellogg). She attended Michigan State University where she studied Psychology and worked part time as a legal secretary and paralegal. Erin graduated on the dean’s list with a B.S in Psychology in 2019. After many years of spending the summer in Plano at her grandparents’ house, Erin finally made DFW her home in 2019 when she started law school at Texas A&M University School of Law. During law school, she served as a legal writing teaching assistant and Online Managing Editor for the Law Review. Erin graduated in 2022 magna cum laude and Order of Coif. All:Welcome Ryan: Ryan “Shooter” Kemrite graduated from Liberty University with a B.S. in Finance, a B.S. in International Business, and a Master of Business Administration. During his time there, he was a three-time team captain of Liberty’s NCAA Division I varsity basketball team, earning all-conference athletic and academic honors. Ryan left Liberty as the program’s all-time leader in season three-point shooting percentage, career three-point shooting percentage, and total three pointers made.Ryan graduated magna cum laude from SMU Dedman School of Law, where he served as an Articles Editor for the International Law Review Association and treasurer for the Hispanic Law Student Association. As a Garner Law Scholar, he had the privilege of working as a research assistant for Bryan A. Garner, a renowned legal writer and lexicographer. Ryan is also a published author with articles in the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, & Energy Law and Thompson Reuter’s Securities Regulation Law Journal (forthcoming Winter 2024).Prior to his career in the law, Ryan worked as a forensic accountant for a boutique accounting firm in Miami, Florida, specializing in financial modeling and litigation support for ultra-high net worth familial and complex business disputes. And prior to joining LPHS, Ryan clerked in trial-heavy docket for Judge David Counts in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. Ryan is professionally fluent in Spanish, a requirement for keeping up with his wife, Michelle, and the Cuban in-laws. Outside the law, Ryan is an avid player of strategy and tabletop games such as Warhammer 40k.
